Kirklees Council's Enabling Team helped Malcolm get back on his feet after an operation

Malcolm experienced the support of Kirklees Council's Enabling Team in January 2012. Malcolm fractured his hip and was admitted to Dewsbury and District Hospital and was transferred to Pinderfields Hospital where he had a hip replacement. He remained at Pinderfields for ten days, where he received physiotherapy treatment. Once Malcolm was discharged from hospital he received support from the Enabling Team at home.

Initially Malcolm received four visits a day. The team monitored him closely and provided him with various pieces of equipment to support him with daily living tasks. Malcolm regained his confidence very quickly, so much so that the team reduced the calls to one per day after the second week.

The team, along with the physiotherapists, worked with Malcolm to improve his mobility. They walked into town with him regularly, monitoring him at all times. Malcolm received the service for five weeks, by which time he was fully independent. Malcolm is now attending his dance classes, just as he did before his operation.
