Andrew has been supported to ride a motorbike

13/09/2012

Andrew* is in his 20's. He was suffering with his first episode of psychosis, which contributed to an eating disorder, as well as social isolation and low motivation.

When he was assessed for a personal budget Andrew said that his interests were music and motorbikes. He really wanted to learn to ride a motorbike but he did not feel confident enough to learn to ride out and about on the roads.

Andrew, with the help of his social worker, applied for a personal budget. He used his personal budget to cover the cost of the initial licence and lessons at a local centre for "off-roading".

Andrew attends the courses regularly and looks forward to them. He has made new friends, which increased his social circle and his motivation for life. This in turn has led to him having more awareness about his illness, becoming happier about his treatment and has helped his role in the family as he contributes more.

*Andrew is not this person's real name.
